The Semicolon

Ok can someone please explain to me how the hell to use a friggen semicolon? Does anyone ever use it except when Microsoft Word tells them to change it? I really do NOT get what the point of it is. Who came up with it anyway? They should be shot!

I think it should be taken out of the English language. DOWN WITH SEMICOLONS THEY'RE USELESS!!
